When Did You Know You Wanted to Marry Your Partner?

People often ask when you know.

Is it a lightning-bolt moment?

Is it something that slowly grows?

Or is it only clear in hindsight?

My moment was an all-nighter we had.

Dammy and I were long distance at the time — him in Ivory Coast, me in the UK. We had only been talking for about a month, but that night we stayed on the phone until morning. No rushing. No awkward silences. The conversation flowed so easily. We laughed, learned so much about each other, and it just felt… natural.

Then it happened. At around 3am

Dammy casually quoted Blue Streak.

My favourite movie.

My favourite actor — Martin Lawrence.

The crazy part?

I had never told him that.

We hadn’t spoken about favourite films. He didn’t know it was mine. But there he was, quoting it, saying how much he loved it — before I ever could.

Something just came over me in that moment.

I remember thinking, “I’m going to marry this man.”

That night has stayed with me ever since

For Dammy, his moment was different — but just as instant. He asked me to send him a video, and I sent something simple. Me. A little hair flick. A smile. A sparkle in my eyes. Slow-mo.

He watched it, smiled huge, and said to himself,

“That’s my wife.”

And here we are.

From long-distance love between the UK and Ivory Coast (2020–2022), to finally meeting in person in May 2021, to getting married and starting our life together in the UK in July 2022 — proof that love really does find a way.

Looking back, those moments make sense now.

Love didn’t shout.

It whispered, and we listened.

Now we want to know your story…

When did you know your partner was the one?

Was it instant or did it grow over time?

Was there one moment that just clicked?

Tell us in the comments — we absolutely love hearing your love stories.
